EID MARKET 2019 – A FIRST!
Toronto is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world – a city that celebrates differences. Famous for unique shopping experiences, holiday and culturally inspired foods, and novelties, patrons of the GTA share in the celebrations of many cultural and religious festivities. Islamic celebrations, rarely make their mark and we wanted to change that.
In 2019, POP + CO decided that Islamic celebrations need to be open and accessible so that they can be enjoyed by everyone. As a result, we decided it would curate an Eid Market which would be held in an open, brand-activated space within a major retail center – a first in Canada! As the largest regional shopping center in Toronto’s east end, the Scarborough Town Centre (STC) was the site of the very first Eid Market of its kind.
The Eid Market was open to everyone free of charge allowing, vendors and sponsors to benefit from maximum exposure and the ability to connect with consumers on an entirely new level.
Eid Market was conceptualized to be an entirely new notion; one that was designed to encourage a new way of thinking. The event marked the beginning of a journey, one that has started to bring the beauty of Ramadan, Eid, and other Islamic commemorations to the forefront of the Canadian population at large, irrespective of culture, race or religion.
